Internship Programs
Advising/Mentoring Research Interns
High School Program
The CEM will offer a number of high school internships through existing programs at local technology-focused schools (Metro High School, Columbus Academy) and through the state-wide WrightChoice Intern Program. Interns, who will be paired with faculty and/or graduate student mentors, will participate in a "job shadowing" program, Students will then be asked to complete an independent research project related to materials science. On campus contact hours will be negotiated with each student based on the requirements of their high school program.
Research Experiences for Undergraduates
Each academic year, the CEM Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program will identify a dozen outstanding undergraduate students and encourage their involvement in materials research projects with CEM faculty. "Encouragement" takes the tangible form of funding as well as various REU professional development events including seminars on taking the GRE exam or how to prepare a research poster or oral presentation. Through numerous social events, students will have the opportunity to discuss their research with each other and with faculty. Students will be required to present their research findings at the Denman Undergraduate Research Forum in the spring and to produce a final written summary of their work.
Mentorship Training/Diversity Awareness Workshops
Faculty advisors and graduate students/post-doctoral scholars supervising undergraduate or high school interns will be encouraged to attend mentorship training and diversity awareness workshops. (Dates and times to be announced.)
