2017 Workshop on Spins, Valleys, and Topological States in 2D and Layered Materials
Jun 4 – Jun 8 all-day
2017 Workshop on Spins, Valleys, and Topological States in 2D and Layered Materials @ Physics Research Building

Description
The aim of the workshop is to bring together a leading group of researchers, in addition to students, postdocs and other participants, to discuss 2D platforms for spin, valley, and topological physics and their potential applications. With the continued evolution of graphene spintronics, combined with the recent advances in spin/valley-polarized excitations in transition metal dichalocogenides, and novel concepts related to the theory and synthesis of emerging new materials, there is a critical mass of researchers with complementary interests. In addition, monolayer magnetism and robust 2D topological states are important challenges moving forward.   At this workshop, participants will bring expertise from a variety of disciplines and discuss the latest advances in this growing field.

This workshop is supported by the Center for Emergent Materials (CEM) an NSF Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC), the Institute of Complex and Adaptive Matter (ICAM), the Institute for Materials Research (IMR), and the Center for Exploration of Novel Complex Materials (ENCOMM).
