“Probing spin waves with single electron spins”

Spin-wave resonances in magnetic systems may be exploited for the amplification of weak magnetic signals and could mediate long-distance interaction between spin qubits. Potential applications are nanoscale magnetometry with single-spin sensitivity and spin-based quantum computing. In this talk, I will present techniques to probe spin waves, using single electronic spins in diamond as nanoscale magnetic-field sensors. We observe spin-wave mediated amplification of magnetic fields applied to a ferromagnetic microdisc, and provide broadband characterization of the spin-wave spectrum through multi-pulse sensing techniques and single-spin relaxometry.
