Please join IMR on Nov. 20 at noon for a presentation by Dr. Nibir Dhar on the US Army Innovative Discovery Science Platform (iDISPLA) Initiative. Faculty, staff, and students interested in engineering education and workforce development are encouraged to attend. ABSTRACT
The Innovative Discovery Science Platform (iDISPLA) is the US Army CERDEC Night Vision & Electronic Sensors Directorate’s (NVESD) initiative in Virginia with an aim to expand nationwide. It addresses technology challenges that are important to the future of the Army as well as has applications in commercial sectors. The iDISPLA project creates a collaborative atmosphere for education, research, partnership, workforce development, talent nodes and innovation. The vision is to facilitate, encourage and translate research in science and technology to create value, innovation culture and edge finding. Through this vision, the effort is working to find answers to questions such as: How do we create an innovation culture and a culture for Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM)? How do we energize technological landscape and develop a robust workforce in the local region? How can we innovate this landscape to create new capabilities for our warfighters? Through this technology landscape, how do we create value, and ultimately how can we deliver value to the local region, the Army and the nation? The iDISPLA is a platform where we bring universities, industries, the State of Virginia and federal agencies to collaborate. The collaborative atmosphere helps to incubate new ideas and find solutions to advance NVESD’s mission.

In this presentation Dr. Dhar will:
1. Highlight some of the activities under the iDISPLA program with an aim to encourage collaboration and a forum to discuss the questions presented
2. Discuss career opportunities at NVESD in engineering and science.

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Nibir Dhar received a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park with a major in Microelectronics and a minor in Electro-physics. He received a BSEE degree in electrical and computer engineering from the George Mason University. For the past thirty years he has been leading the EOIR imaging technology for the US Armed Forces with a focus on Army and USSOCOM applications and product development. Dr. Dhar joined Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate (NVESD) in April of 2014 as the Chief Scientist for science and technology to advance the R&D portfolio and technology maturation efforts. At NVESD, he is involved with the R&D programs in electronics, photonics, materials, detectors, FPAs, optics, processing, EOIR systems and applications in the imaging science and technology area. As part of his strategy to increase research portfolio at NVESD, Dr. Dhar initiated a new innovation platform called, “Innovative Discovery Science Platform” (iDISPLA) focusing on advanced R&D, education, work-force & outreach, collaboration and technology maturation.
