The CEM has developed a data management plan that promotes long-term preservation, publication, and ease of access for all data generated during this project. This plan is philosophically aligned with the Office of Science and Technology Policy and NSF’s Dissemination and Sharing of Research Results Policy for immediate public accessibility of published federally funded research. Central to this plan are four pedestals
- Ensuring long term management and preservation of data and samples using FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Researchable) data principles;
- Enabling immediate public accessibility to publications and the supporting data;
- Educating all CEM members about our data management plan and ensuring implementation;
- Evolving the data management plan with emerging changes in best practices.
In accordance with the Office of Science and Technology Policy to have federally funded research publications and their underlying data be immediately accessible, CEM participants should follow the following best practices during the manuscript submission process for CEM-supported articles.
- The day the manuscript is submitted, the authors should submit a version of the manuscript onto the publicly accessible Arxiv, Bioarxiv, or Chemarxiv server. Additionally, the data used in the preparation of all figures in the main text and supporting information should be deposited onto a data repository of the authors’ choosing (i.e. Zenodo, DataDryad, and for computational methods, Github) and linked to the manuscript.
- For every required revision, the day that a revised version of the manuscript is submitted, the authors should update both the data repository and the arxiv version.
- Once the manuscript is accepted and the day that a DOI number is received, the authors should link both the arxiv and the data repository to the DOI number.
