The OSU Center for Urban & Regional Analysis is hosting a Data visualization workshop that may be of interest to CEM students. From the CURA blog:
Join graduate students, staff, and faculty from across the University to learn effective data visualization techniques! This free workshop will teach the fundamental concepts of presenting complex data in an understandable way. Communicating the results of research is one of the most important tools researchers have, so make sure you’re doing it well!
The workshop will be led by Karen Lewis, a Knowlton School faculty member, alumna of Harvard Graduate School of Design, and author of the upcoming book Graphic Design for Architects. This event is jointly supported by the Center for Urban & Regional Analysis and the City & Regional Planning Section of the Knowlton School.
Karen’s work has been recognized in numerous national competitions. Her design research examines the intersection of graphic and infrastructural systems. Recent projects include Harborport, a multi-scaled proposal for the collaboration of transportation systems with water remediation strategies in New York City; Health Corridor, a project that links restorative environments with medical centers and high speed rail; and Envisioning Organization, a symposium of designers that leverage practices of information design to propose architecture.
For a chance to learn more about this increasingly important intersection of data and the communication of data, attend our workshop! Karen will lead participants in an interactive format designed to demonstrate the importance of data design elements. All skill levels are encouraged to attend; no experience necessary.
