CEM REU Student Jill Belluomini Receives Award for Top Senior at Northern Illinois University

Jill Belluomini, a Summer 2020 CEM REU student, was recently granted the Lincoln Laureate Award. This award is given to an outstanding senior from each of Illinois’ four-year universities for excellence in both curricular and extracurricular activities. Jill is a chemistry major and dance minor at Northern Illinois University. An article detailing this accomplishment can be viewed here.

 

 

Breakfast of Science Champions

On November 5, 2015, CCAPP, CEM and the Departments of Astronomy and Physics will host the Breakfast of Science Champions, which is for gifted and talented middle school students in Columbus City Schools. Students participate in breakfast, a presentation and then 4 hands-on demo stations including: fun with magnetism or superconducting train, nanoscale magnetism for electronics, snowballs and explosions in our solar system: comets and craters; and surprises about gravity and motion. We end the event with a liquid nitrogen show.

NSF Site Visit to be held October 22nd and 23rd

The Center for Emergent Materials will host an NSF Site Visit on October 22nd and 23rd.

June 29, 1:30-3:00 pm: CEM to host NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) Panel Discussion

The Center for Emergent Materials is hosting an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) Panel discussion on Friday, June 29, 2012 from 1:30-3:00pm in 1080 Physics Research Building.  During this discussion, panelists will describe their experiences in applying for the fellowship, give advice for preparing the essays that are required and answer questions to help the audience put together their applications.  For additional information, see flyer: Fellowship Panel Discussion_July2012
