CEM publication one of most read recent ACS Nano articles

A CEM Proto-IRG team of researchers has recently published a paper titled Progress, Challenges, and Opportunities in Two-Dimensional Materials Beyond Graphene in ACS Nano. The paper is one of the journal’s most downloaded papers in the last month and in the last year. CEM members Dr. Shawna Hollen, Dr. Jay Gupta, Dr. Ezekiel Johnston-Halperin, Dr. Wolfgang Windl, and Dr. Joshua Goldberger are authors of the paper.

NSF Challenges STEM Graduate Students to Submit Innovative Ideas to Improve Graduate Education

The National Science Foundation is calling for currently-enrolled graduate students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields to share their unique perspectives on graduate education. Entries are solicited for ideas with the potential to improve graduate education and professional development, and can be submitted at the 2013 Innovation in Graduate Education Challenge website by April 15, 2013. Winners will receive prizes from $1,000 to $3,000, as well as national recognition for their ideas.

CEM Faculty Jos Heremans Elected to National Academy of Engineering

CEM would like to congratulate Prof. Joseph Heremans, (Depts. of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and Physics) on being named to the National Academy of Engineering. Prof. Heremans was chosen for his discoveries in thermal energy transfer and conversion to electricity and for the commercial devices employed in automobiles. Election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions that may be accorded to an individual engineer during their lifetime. CEM Faculty Prof. Len Brillson selected as a 2013 MRS Fellow

CEM would like to congratulate CEM Faculty Member Prof. Len Brillson (Dept of Electrical and Computer Engineering) on his selection as a 2013 Materials Research Society (MRS) Fellow. This is a notable achievement considering that 0.2% of MRS members are selected to be Fellows. MRS is the fifth society to select Prof. Brillson as a Fellow. The other societies of which he is a Fellow exemplify the interdisciplinary nature of his research: American Physical Society (APS), AVS: Science and Technology of Materials, Interfaces, and Processing, American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
