“But nobody told me this!”: planning for success beyond your PhD … helping serendipity
Dr. Jairo Sinova, Johannes Gutenberg U. Mainz
Wednesday, November 2nd at 12:00pm in PRB 1080
Career paths come in all forms and shapes – most of them have random meetings that had an impactful influence. But you have goals and dreams – how can you get there, how can you help this “serendipity” not be so serendipitous? What is required and how to build the skills that you need to get there. A PhD and knowing your science is not enough. In this career talk we will discuss the ideal student/researcher whose skills will maximize any opportunity that arises. This “ideal” person is something we all work on and we can plan it. It is no rocket science and, in many ways, obvious – but is something that you want to think about sometimes and organize yourself in order not to find yourself at the end of a juncture in your career, and without the necessary skills to make the next step towards your goal.
